rm or cp "--Aetc" how to

I have a file imported via MLDonkey with a name that is named --Abcdef.mp3 (not the true file name to protect the innocent).

I need to rename and move the file to a different directory.

When I try and move it using mv --Abcdef.mp3, or mv \-\-Abcdef.mp3, or mv "--Abcdef.mp3", or mv '--Abcdef.mp3' the mv breaks down with :

mv: unrecognized option '--Abcdef.mp3'
Try `mv --help' for more information.

Regrettably mv --help does not offer the answer. Neither does man mv.

Trying to copy the file with cp <filename> breaks down in the same way as mv <filename>.

This problem is slowly sending me crazy.

Can someone offer a solution?

Tia.

Are you using a WM? Can you change the name in a file browser instead of the command line?

Do you have Midnight Commander installed? Use MC to rename or move the file.
