reverse engineering adope flash

hi ,

well some may disagree but i personally think that flash always has been a great piece of software , anyways i'm interested in seeing flash reverse engineered and an open source version released that is compatible with common flash object (i.e .swf)

is this feasible?

cheers

There's gnash and lightspark. I recently tried them in a Debian "Wheezy" VM, but they're not up to the standard of Adobe Flash, yet.

okay , now that's interesting !
now since you've tested it , how much functionality is still missing in terms of percentage according to your estimation?
and which one is better so far , gnash or lightspark? why can't the FLOSS devs just merge their projects ??

cheers

I read somewhere that you could have both gnash and lightspark installed, and that would give best results. So that's what I tried, watched a few music videos on youtube and a couple of programmes on BBC iPlayer. The main problem was stuttering, jerky images, and poorer definition than Flash. I'm sure they'll get it sorted out, sometime. Fingers crossed.

No, I didn't try any games. After I saw the poor performance on a few videos, I uninstalled them and went back to Flash.
