restarting x server?

I did some changes to my video settings and now I have to restart the X server. What is the command for this? I'm running Redhat 9.0.

Thanks,
Mike

Try hitting Ctrl+Alt+Backspace (kills X server), then typing startx (starts X, as you might have guessed).

are you booting into the gui? then you don't need to do a startx. just do the ctrl-alt-backspace and that will restart X server. if the changes didn't do what you want, then you need to configure some more.

if you want to do startx in the terminal then you would have to kill the x sever even though it might have crashed ...

#pkill X

then try startx
