Restart from Command Line


Hi, I'm running SuSE 8 and would like to know what I need to type into the command line to reboot the system?

shutdown -r now

will reboot instantly

if you man shutdown it will give you all of the options

It is common for Linux to have the 'halt' (shutdown -h now), and 'reboot' (shutdown -r now) commands available at least to root.
Don't know about Suse.
