Renaming win xp (ntfs) file from Linux

This is sort of a branch off one of my previous threads, "Dual Booting Problems...Big Problems." I need to rename a windows file, specifically boot.ini.backup, in order to restore my windows xp partition. I am unable to use a boot disk that will see this partition, and am thus unable to rename it. I have heard of ways to rewrite NTFS from Linux, but that it is highly extremely mega dangerous and may destroy the entire ntfs file system, which doesnt sound like something I would like to try. Any ideas for me? I need to rename boot.ini.backup to boot.ini and move it from windows/pss to the root directory on the windows partition....

Waiting for help...
Matt

Use a Windows rescue disk. That can read/write NTFS iirc.
