Remote Login and Running Processes


Is there any way to log into a server (using SSH or any other method) to be able to control a running process? Lemme explain. I have a counter-strike server running and I want to know if it is possible to login and be able to type a command into that server. It is running in a terminal window under XWindows (Using GNOME). Let me know how I can do this. I don't mind not using XWindows if that is what is needed. Thanks.

If you have ssh installed and running on this server, you shouldn't have any problems logging in and administering it from any system. From Linux you can just do it from command line, in Windows I would suggest using putty to login remotely.

I'm not too good with linux so uh... heh... I am using command-line on Mac OS X to connect to a RH8 server using SSH. I need to type a command into a RUNNING terminal on the RH8 server. What is putty?

Ignore putty then, its for windows clients to connect to servers thru ssh, rlogin and telnet...

If you want to have the process continue running after you disconnect and then later be able to reconnect to the same process then you will have to use something like screen. It will start a sort of virtual terminal which you can connect and disconnect to. See the following link for more information:
