Reformatted as FAT32, mount still thinks it's linux_raid_member

I have a hard drive that was part of a raid. I reformatted the first partition to be FAT32. Here is the partition table:
Code:
sudo fdisk -l /dev/sdb

Disk /dev/sdb: 1500.3 GB, 1500299395072 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 182401 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x0008fc45

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sdb1 1 182401 1465136001 c W95 FAT32 (LBA)
When I go to mount it, if I don't explicitly give the type as msdos, it assumes that it is linux_raid_member:
Code:
mount: unknown filesystem type 'linux_raid_member'
I can mount it if I tell mount that it is msdos w/ -t msdos.

Why is it still assuming that this is a linux_raid_member partition?

Changing partition type in fdisk is NOT the same as "reformatting" the filesystem. Maybe if you ran the DOS format command on it it would overwrite headers it is finding?

Also did you verify the disk is no longer listed in your mdadm setup for the Linux RAID?

I used mkfs.msdos to actually create the new filesystem on the partition. I thought this would label the partition as being msdos as far as mount is concerned, but it didn't. Then I changed type filesystem type in fdisk to FAT32 and that didn't work.

The disk isn't listed in my mdadm setup. The partition doesn't even have a UUID any more.

I just took a look at one of my RAID members in gparted and there is a RAID flag set, so I suppose you could try unsetting that.
