redirect untar output

Probably asked before, but I could not find it with search.

I have backup tar files in /data/backupfiles directory, but I want untar the files in there to /data.

How would I write the "tar -xzvf files.tar.gz" command so it would place the files in /data

thanks
manuel

Tried reading the documentation yet? :)

Code:
man tar
-I
/directory

Well, Guru, as a matter of fact I have read them. However "-j, -I, --bzip
filter the archive through bzip2. Note: -I is deprecated and may get a different meaning in the near future. " did not seem to work for what I wanted to do.

The answer is probably right in those man pages, but I can't see it at this point.

Thanks
manuel

Actually you were meant to type
-I
/directory
while in tar's man-page, which would
have lead you right to the option you're
looking for ...

Cheers,
Tink
