Redhat Updates
Hi!!!
I could finally convert some friends of mine to use RedHat instead of M$. But they need some support. Somes of them do not have a fast internet connection so I was planing in give a hand and download the updates to their distros and put in a CD Into Redhat homepage I've found they do, exist. But I'm not sure which to download. Should be the RPM's inside "SRPMS"? (if you ever been at any of RedHat mirrors ftp's you might know what I'm talking about). How should it be to update the system them? Should it be done manually installing the rpm's? Would be then a rpm command to install all updated RPM's at once? Any help about how to update from CD would be great. Thanks in advance |
I would update one system using apt4rpm or Red Carpet, then burn a CD with the downloaded files (/var/cache/apt or /var/cache/redcarpet) to a cd, then copy to the same location on new computer, install apt4rpm, run it and they should be up to date pretty quickly.
Red Carpet will do similarly. # Redhat links RedHat Linux Manuals Maximum RPM rpmfind Easier software management: apt4rpm - Red Carpet RedHat 8.0 Tips & Tricks # Redhat 7.3 down configuration commands setup leads to several configuration tools # Redhat 7.3 up configuration commands Configure soundcard: redhat-config-soundcard Configure X server: redhat-config-xfree86 Configure network: redhat-config-network |
Thanks a lot for the reply fancypiper. Both advices and links were great :).
Thanks again |
