redhat install problem

Im installing rh8 to a system

system specs

P3 650 on shuttle ab61 board latest bios 23 from shuttle
Maxtor 91531U3 15gig drive
128meg pc100 ram
50x cdrom
realtek ethernet
16meg banshee video
sound card not sure

anyway here goes,

install from floppy,cdrom and ftp
always intext mode

everytime I get through the initial setup screens (i.e. root password, users, ethernet config, firewall) it gets to the part where it format the root partition and fails at 11% with kernal panic Aiee-interupt handler not syncing.

What I've done thus far

Eliminated media issues by trying install via ftp. I know my boot floppy is good it has worked on other machines and internet conection is up and working.

Tested Maxtor Drive using Maxtor powermax software drive passes everytime. I'm in the process of low leveling it anyway. It seems to be going good.

I'm not sure if maybe somthing in the bios is not set correctly I have tried changing a couple of settings but I don't really know what I'm looking for.

With an error like interupt handler I was making an assumption that maybe two devices sharing an interupt maybe causing redhat some confusion. If thats it I don't see any problems like that during the post.

I did a google on the errors string and it did not return anything that looked like it was related to my problem

any ideas ?????????

A little more info exact error after lowlevel format

I am now positive that whatever the problem is it has nothing to do with the hard drive

error

Code: 8b 4a 0c 8b 42 08 89 48 04 89 01 53 9d 5b c3 90 57 56 53 f6
<0>Kernal panic: Aiee, killing interupt handler!
In interupt handler - not syncing

thats it on a blue screen. I am going to try to install another OS in the mean time an see what happens.

I had a similar problem when I installed my rh8. Before i installed rh8 I added 64mb of ram. I got a similar error message "kernel panic". I removed the new memory, tried to reinstall with memory already in the system, and walla it work. I added them memory after the installation was complete. not sure if thia will help you but i thought I'd add.

thanks right now im install win2k if their is a memory problem then I think it may apear in some form during the w2k install. When I done with the w2k install I will try the rh8 again with less mem

my mem is one 64 + (2)*32 hmm....

maybe i will try with less or hell buy some new memory
cheap enough

I found that during the install process for win2k it was failing during the intial write to disk for the install so I one by one removed my Dimms untill the transfer went all the way through. Then using the remaining dimm (1 - 64 and 1 - 32) I started the redhat install again. What do you know it is going through right now. Went right passed the error I was getting before. I guess I gong to buy more Dimms. I'd like to have more the 90 some odd meg.

I'm glad it worked for you..I installed the memory (that didn't work) after redhat installation was complete, and it has worked fine since. :D
