Smile Redhat and AIX


Hello everyone..

Iam a newbie to Linux. Iam working on Redhat Enterprise Linux , and Fedora . Iam interested in doing AIX.. I need your valuabe remarks about AIX.. Is it similar to Redhat and Fedora..? Is it easy to learn AIX for guys like me who are working on RedHat?

whilst AIX and Linux are UNIX variants (well, by most interpretatiosn for Linux) it's reasonably different, depends how good your transferable skills are. If you are really very comfortable with Redhat then things will seem reasonably similar, but files will be in different places with different syntaxes and such. also AIX prefers CSH not BASH, which you may find a bit of getting used to if you're not already and csh fan.

And the nice thing about AIX is, if you don't know the Linux equivalent command to do something in AIX, smit makes it very easy to do just about anything..
