Red hat not finding swap space

I installed a swap partition as a logical partition way down in my partition table, but my root directory is all the way at the top (i have a bunch of ntfs dirs in between.) anyway, i don't think its finding it because when i go to the task mannager it says 0 available for swap space. My question is, is there a way for me to specify the location of the swap space ?

thx

mkswap /dev/hdXX

swapon /dev/hdXX

Where XX is the location of the partition. When creating the partition to be used, did you specify the type as Linux Swap?

And is there an entry in your /etc/fstab file for the swap partition?

/dev/hdxx swap swap defaults 0 0

This will enble swap at boot time.
