recovering an NTFS partition under linux...

Hi everyone
a friend gave me a drive with an accidentally quick formatted partition in NTFS.
I need to recover for him what is recoverable..
I was wondering if there is any way to make it work under linux the recovery apps made for windows..
and if yes, what should i use.

If you want to use Windows-installable recovery apps and get the job done, I recommend you get a Windows and install such apps on it. Note that most of them are not free of charge; some are, and a great part of those are made in such a way that they might show you what could be recovered, but won't do anything before you buy the full version. There are similar apps available that you can install on Linux; some have versions for both Linux and Windows, so you can choose. I'd use the app on it's native platform rather than try to emulate anything..just because I would like the program to work right without question.

aww i don't have windows in my home..
i was thinking about a livecd of windows, is there any?

Yeah, there's a Windows live CD. But it's not free!

Unless it was developed by the people who actually made the OS, or the filesystem, I wouldn't count on it working. Just because it's NTFS, doesn't mean some Windows application is going to be the best bet. A Windows app might be EASIER, but not necessarily the best.

Photorec, Linux based, saved my rear a few times so far, and I've been happy with its results.
