recompiled kernel again get this error when NVIDIA build..

Hello. Well I recompiled the kernel (2.4.18) again and added built in video 4 lin and bttv. After everythings done and new image is copied to /boot it reboots fine. I must alter XF86Config to use the built in kernel
NVIDIA drivers first changing back the lines to driver= 'nv' and commenting out the load GLX part and then I can boot into X fine. Now after recompiling kernel it seems I must reinstall the NVIDIA drivers for OpenGl to get the openGL support again. I cd to NVIDIA_kernel directory and type 'make install', as su of course, and get this error now >

ld -r -o nvidia.o nv-linux.o nv-kernel.o

depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/i2c/i2c-algo-pcf.o
depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/i2c/i2c-dev.o

depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18/kernel/drivers/video/matrox/matroxfb_maven.o
make: *** [package-install] Error 1

when recompiling im pretty sure I did this in this order>
make menuconfig ( selected video4lin and bttv drivers built in)
make dep
make clean
make bzImage
make modules
make modules_install

did I forget to make dep or something?

thanks

what happens if you run:
"depmod -a" ?

Try "rm -rf" on the NVIDIA_kernel dir and try again.

Did you mv the old module tree for that kernel before you did

"make modules && make modules_install" ?

after doing the depmod -a
I cd'd to the NVIDIA-kernel directory
and did rm -rf like you said and still upon 'make install'
still get a bunch of depmod errors
No, i didn't move the old modules tree before I did 'make modules'
or make modules_install

mv the old module tree to a backup dir and do:

"make modules && make modules_install"

in the kernel source dir again. Then try installing the nvidia module again.
