reboot so user can access fs space limited by group recently added to?

hi GPL'ers,

whenever a new user is added to a group it seems only a reboot lets the user actually use fs space limited by that group. does anybody know of something i can restart so i don't have to reboot the fileserver just so a user can access space limited by the group they were recently added to?

Are you referring to a group or something that has a quota on a particular fileserver? More details please!

hi trickykid, thx for the reply.

i don't run quotas.

however, when i add user joe to the junk group, joe can cd into a directory accessible only to those that belong to the junk group after a reboot. it seems to me that i should be able to let joe get some junk without having to reboot the fileserver. in this case the fileserver is a RH9 box running on a PII.

It might be that its not reading he's a part of that group until its rebooted yes. Have you tried to just logout and log back in without rebooting to see if that works? Seems as if it's possibly not reading the groups file after adding them to it. How are you assigning users to the group or groups? By command line or GUI interface somehow? Does it occur on both when you do this either way?

good point, logging out then back in updates the groups for the user and fixes this issue. thanks for nudging a few extra neurons to fire in the late evening.
