Read error Fedora 11

Hi Friends,

I booted up my Fedora 11 machine yesterday after shifting from a place to another , all I got was a black screen with the following white letters

Code:
Read Error
This screen comes up before grub screen shows up.

Computer has a seagate 160G(sda) probably 2 yrs old.
OS : Fedora11
FS : ext4
Partitioning : default fedora 11 partition scheme with / mounted onto a LVM

I did a through power drain , restored BIOS to factory defaults , disabled my secondary SATA HDD (sdb) , reseated SATA cables , power cables , nothing helped.

Then I booted the computer through the OS DVD , entered rescue mode , rescue mode failed to mount the system to /mnt/sysimage ,. Rescue environment didn't detect the presence of sda , it was only able to detect sdb. So I was not able to do anything there , But I did check dmesg output and even where sda wasn't mentioned and I don't remember seeing any error like bad block or something ..

At this point I almost gave up and planned to go on with a clean installation , clean installation doesn't pass a screen which says finding storage..

So I almost started to believe what was hanging around me that my HDD is dead (coz when fedora 11 was working fine a couple of days ago palimpsest HDD utility was reporting failing HDD errors)

But my smallest ray of hope is my Latest BIOS detects and reports every single detail of the HDD

I am looking for some solutions and suggestions

Thanks all.

From the above, your "latest BIOS" can "see" the HDD, but no system can read the drive's contents.

My suggestion: Buy and install a new HDD, restore you system from your backup, and
place your current HDD in the wastebasket.

Thanks PTrenholme for the suggestion and that is what I exactly did , created a RMA request with seagate

I came to the above conclusion after trying the following ,

booted the computer with a Sabayon (gentoo) live DVD and tried my luck with the regular steps that one would try , none worked , sda was not detected

So I created a RMA request . got to send my HDD to seagate tomorrow

thanks,
