First, to state things clearly, I'm a Linux Newbie
. I'm using Slackware 8.1 and after a good amount of time spent in front of the computer I managed to get all my hardware working. The
small exception is my Rca DCM245 Cable Modem. Since I don't have an Ethernet card(yet) the modem si connected to my PC through USB.
So my question is how to set it up and is that possible at all?
In fact I already tried some possible solutions. I recompiled the kernel with every usb driver I found compiled
in the kernel. Here is what dmesg says about the matter:
Quote:
usb.c: registered new driver usbdevfs
usb.c: registered new driver hub
usb.c: registered new driver acm
acm.c: v0.21:USB Abstract Control Model driver for USB modems and ISDN adapters
pegasus.c: v0.4.22 (2001/12/07):Pegasus/Pegasus II USB Ethernet driver
usb.c: registered new driver pegasus
catc.c: v2.7 CATC EL1210A NetMate USB Ethernet driver
usb.c: registered new driver catc
kaweth.c: Driver loading
usb.c: registered new driver kaweth
CDCEther.c: CDCEther.c: v0.98.5 22 Sep 2001 Brad Hards and another
usb.c: registered new driver CDCEther
usb.c: registered new driver usbnet
|
Still there is nothing beginning with "eth" in /dev. So, naturally, my dhcpcd told me:
Quote:
dhcpcd[60]: dhcpStart: ioctl SIOCGIFHWADDR: No such device

Any suggestion what I should do next? Is there any kind of support for RCA USB Cable Modems or should I just give up and buy an Ethernet card? Buying one is not a big problem but I am impatient to get my Internet running.
I would appreciate any piece of help. Thank you in advance.
