Hey, actually it was sunny, at times...
XMMS - I listen to www.radioparadise.com so, go to their site, look down the right hand side, about 1/2 way down, there is a list - Windows Media 48k etc... I choose 128k Mp3 and click on it. I then get a dialogue window - "Open 'http://22.214.171.124:8048/listen.pls'?" so I choose Open, and then type in XMMS in the next Dialogue box. It then plays in XMMS.
I used synaptic to check if the needed packages where installed as follows.
In the box labeled Find Package, enter xmms and then select Applications/Multimedia . The file of interest is called xmms-mp3-1.2.7-21.pfr1 so you want to go ahead and install it.
You could also use other means of getting the file like http://www.tuxfinder.com .
Check to see where the file is located with the command: whereis xmms . In my case the first entry is what we want, /usr/bin/xmms .
