quiet sound?
 

i just installed linux mandrake 10 and for some reason my sound is very very quiet, i'm pretty new to linux, and i'm not sure if it's a hardware or a software problem, it works fine in windaz, it's an ac'97 onboard sound card. any way to crank it up? it needs to be boosted, umm, prolly like 50dB it's super weird.

Run alsamixer & see what everything's set to.

ok well i fixed the problem, i just changed my sound card and now it's working well, but for some reason i can't use alsamixer now? it says snd_ctd_open failed for default: no such device. i suppose this doesn't matter cos it works but what's going on here??
