Query regarding SCTP protocol

Just a basic query rearding SCTP protocol.

Suppose a situation occur in which an end point(1) sends a heartbeat to other end point (2), then it wait for an HB_ACK . During this time it recieves hearbeat message(HB_MSG) from end point 2 instead of HB_ACK.

Does endpoint 1 still wait for HBK_ACK from 2 and will retransmit it after timer expires or will reset the timer when it recieves the HB_MSG.

Thanks
