ok... one more time : the symlinks really shouldn't matter too much. yes, they need to point to the correct place, but typically, the /dev/mouse or /dev/psaux or /dev/whatever end up just pointing to a serial port, and if you have /dev/psaux in the XF86Config file, then you don't even need the /dev/mouse link.

one of the great things about linux is that you don't have to have a lot of clutter... it's good to know what you do and don't need.
