Promise FastTrack 374 and Linux Kernel v2.6

I was attempting to upgrade Linux on my computer from version 2.4 to 2.6 and have run into a problem. Apparently a few people have the same problem. Promise Technology has not bothered to update their proprietary RAID driver to work with version 2.6. In fact it looks like they haven't touched the driver since 2003.

I have a copy of "partial source" which can possibly be modified to work with Linux version 2.6. Basically there is one proprietary object module with no source that handles the array management. There is source for the rest.

What I'm looking for is some information that might be helpful in modifying the driver to work with version 2.6. I've never written or modified a Linux driver before, but I have done so for other operating systems. It would be even better if someone could direct me to information specifically about issues updating drivers from version 2.4 to 2.6 of the kernel.
