.profile

Dear Friends !

I created one user in Linux (fedora 2) Successfully and I created .profile shell script with execute permissions and I placed it in his home directory.According to Linux specification whenever that particular user logins into the System .profile must get executed but it was not happening so....
why ?

Any help regarding this would be great.

.bash_profile is excuted as the user logs on, .bashrc every time he/she opens a new terminal window.

u r welcome.
well, there is /etc/profile and ~/.bash_profile - the 1st for the sys in general, and the 2nd is the user-specific counterpart.
also, /etc/bashrc, and ~/.bashrc - the 1st for all users, and the 2nd for certain user.
and of course ~/ means home directory for a certain user.
