problems with yast2 online update in suse 8

I've installed linux suse 8 in my hp omnibook 4400s laptop with kde 3 and it worked fine until I run the online update from yast control center.Now I cannot start X server and I see several errors for example cannot find display etc.What should I do?
If I try to reinstall X server from cds, will my problem be solved?

I dropped SuSE just for this reason. I tried to install SuSE on my Compaq Evo n400c with 512MB of RAMM and a 30GB Harddrive and I installed SuSE three times.

I found that the location that you choose for the online updates are key, use the one directly from Suse's FTP server. PLUS, do not use Automatic update, choose Manual and select the downloads that you need.

As of now, I am Slackware 8.1 believer.... I have had no problems with my laptop.
