Problems with Xorg: Nvidia screen and then hard freeze! (Missing dri modules)

I don't know where to post this. Possible on the Gentoo subforum cause I use that right now. But I get same error when trying Arch so I put it here.

After installing drivers an other stuff with the emerge command I try to run X by just typing "X". I see a nvidia logo (cause I use nvidia instead of nv in the config file) and then the computer freeze. I really wounder how the live-cd dists have solve this problem.

It seem that I should run the hal deamon and I installed it with "emerge hal". I have read that it should be done with the USE-something but I don't really understand how to do, it seem to work anyway. But do I really need to tell the config file that I should use mouse and keyboard if I run hal?

If someone could help me, I would be very happy!

Here is the xorg.conf file:
Code:

EDIT: Okey, I manged to jump back the console window by Alt + Ctrl + F1 and then press Ctrl + C. I get a new logfile that tells me that the modules "dri" and "dri2" does not exist. How I install them? "emerge dri" does not works!

Here is the new logfile, I removed the old to save place (I think I run startx this time):

I think it didn't freeze, you just need a window manager or something to put on the screen (xterm or something else).
Read 'man startx' to have details of how to initialize an X session.

Dri modules

But the dri modules then? Don't I need them?
Am I supposed to get three console windows and one clock by running startx?

The missing dri dri2 messages are just warnings and should not prevent Xorg from working.

What happens when you run startx (or xinit) ?

For information on my machine I get :
Code:
ll /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 10585 nov. 30 08:46 librecord.so
libdri.so and libdri2.so are part of the xorg-server package.

I don't know for Gentoo.
Maybe a Gentoo forum should be more appropriate to answer you.
(or the Gentoo documentation which is said to be good)

When I run startx I see (after a while) three console windows and one clock.

And I don't find any drifiles anywhere... Don't I need the dri module if I want 3D?
Anyways, thank you all!
