Problems with unicode.

Hi all.

In my .bashrc file I have the command unicode_stop so that a curses program I have can display a menu properly. However, when I do this and I logon to the machine remotely, I get the error "Couldnt get a file descriptor referring to the console". That itself does not worry me. However, I'm reliant on the less command and that is where the problem is as it returns the error message as I indicate above whenever I try to view a file with it.

Although I consider myself an expert on Linux systems, this one has me stumped! I have a feeling it is related to tty's and pty's but other than that, I'm clueless.

cheers,
tkb.

What exactly does this "command unicode_stop" do?
