Problems with SuSE v9.2 - Initializing Hardware

I am completely new to Linux and took a friend's suggestion of installing Linux and Windows XP on my computer, the specs being:

AMD Athlon XP 2200+
1024 MB DDR/PC2100 RAM
SAMSUNG SV4002H 40GB HD
GeForce4 MX440 8x 128 MB DDR
SAMSUNG CD-R/RW SW-240B

Now, I downloaded and burned the 5 CD version from bi-torrent.com, a total of approximately 3.2GB. I place the first CD into the drive, restart from Windows XP, and get the nice Novell SuSE GUI, once I chose "Installation" it shows me Loading Linux Kernel, this gets to 100% and goes on to "Initializing Hardware", but decides that it wouldn't mind hanging there for twenty plus minutes without anything in the "More info" apart from:

">>> SUSE LINUX installation program v1.7.17 (c) 1996-2004 SUSE LINUX AG<<<"

This is as far as I get, and no matter what form of installation I chose; I've chosen "Installation", "Installation - Safe Settings", "Installation - Manual", the only form of installation I haven't tried is "Installation - ACPI Disabled" as I don't know what it means. Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated as I would really like to use Linux and am getting extremely annoyed with Windows XP day-by-day.

P.S. I am positive that was I downloaded is NOT a bad burn or download.

Thanks in advance.

Enter your motherboard's BIOS. They Delete key, for most. Disable PNP and APIC.
