Unhappy problems with log-in and screen

Hi, I need some help with this, IŽve installed linux on an IBM 1996 aptiva, I installed Red Hat linux distribution 7.0, it seems that everything goes ok on the partition part and the installation part, also when I finally run linux, but when it is al loaded up and comes the log-in part, it kind like dissappears the screen and i canŽt write anything because the screen comes for seconds and dissappears again, also IŽve tried to run xwindow system but it doesnŽt works. IŽll be very grateful if someone could help me please!
thanks!!

Most likely it hasn't configured X properly during the install and is trying to boot to X upon startup.

Reboot your machine and start in runlevel 3, to do this you can type:

linux init 3

At the boot: prompt

And that should put you in multiuser mode not starting X but brings you to a login prompt. Login and then run Xconfigurator to configure X. If you can post your hardware specs like video and monitor, it might help us determine if they are supported or not.

Let us know if you have any other questions.
