Is the floppy formatted, and is there a filesystem on it? If not, go
$ fdformat /dev/fd0
$ /sbin/mkfs.{msdos,ext2,minix,...} /dev/fd0
or use a frontend like kfloppy.
You can use the mtools for a FAT-formatted floppy:
$ mdir a:
should give you the directory contents,
$ mcopy source a:target
puts a file onto the disk; just like in M$-DOS.

Hope I could help,
mschutte
