problem with setting CLASS_PATH variable for compile java

hi
when i try to give command below to set classpath for java class files

set $class-path=%$CLASS_PATH%;apachetomcat5/conf/lib/servlet-api.jar
i get error permision dinied, pls anybody could help me to fix it?

I think in linux you should use ':' instead of the ';' seperator for classpath

ok but how to fix the error that "permision denied" n root also.
