Problem with Putty...weird

Ok, this is going to sound very odd, but I think I am having a problem with the little Putty program.

Here is the problem: When I fire up putty and log in remotely to any of my Linux servers, then attempt to read man pages, the man pages are difficult to read.

I'm not sure if this will turn out, but here goes:

‐‐nodownload

But where the -- is, its a little box in front of the option. Thus, it is a pain in the butt to try and read the man pages.

Any idea on what the problem may be? Something I need to change in putty?

Thanks.

Are you running RH8.0 on these servers? What does your /etc/sysconfig/i18n say?

Just a thought, but try these few things:

Under "Window/Translation".

Try a few options under the "Adjust how PuTTY displays line drawing characters."

(Font has XWindows encoding, Use font in both ANSI and OEM modes, et cetera.)

You can also try changing a few other things in there. Also, make sure you are using an updated version of PuTTY.

I'll look into the problem, and see if I can find anything else on it. If I do, I'll let you know.

Thanks guys. I did try a couple of the things you mentioned. I tried changing the translation part in Putty and saving it to the session.

I also, just today, downloaded the recent version of putty.

Here is the info from my /etc/sysconfig/i18n

LANG="en_US.iso885915"
SUPPORTED="en_US.iso885915:en_US:en"
SYSFONT="lat0-sun16"
SYSFONTACM="iso15"

Any ideas? Something need to be changed?

Thanks.

Your i18n looks fine.

So the box characters are the only thing that's weird. Did you say this is the case across multiple servers? That makes it sound like something is wrong on the PuTTY end of things. The next thing I would try changing would be the incoming charset under putty and see if that makes a difference.
