problem with netcat (nc)
Hi. I'm brand new to the linuxquestions site. So if I'm in the wrong location for this question, please recommend where I should ask it.
I can't figure out why an invocation of netcat (nc) within the dash shell used by my Debian distro doesn't return me to the shell prompt after a query. The very same command works fine within a Busybox shell.
The entry is:
echo "status" | localhost 6600
which is a status request from a local mpd server.
It provides an appropriate response, but then stops and waits rather than returning me to the system dash prompt.
The response is:
OK MPD 0.15.0
volume: 61
repeat: 0
random: 0
single: 0
consume: 0
playlist: 2
playlistlength: 0
xfade: 0
state: stop
OK
which is a correct response, but the only way I've found to exit nc is with a CTL-C.
I'm expecting it to be something very simple, but I can't figure it out.
Thanks in advance for whatever advice you may have.
