Problem Wi-Fi communication between PC and TV
 

Hello,
I'm using Plex Media Server on my Ubuntu 11.10 and using Wi-Fi connection stream movie to my LG Smart TV.
It worked fine for a week or so but yesterday I started to experience the issue to stream the same file as was good before.
Now when I stream it started to play and then pause or buffer then play again and etc. Practically it's not watchable that way. TV Plex client has a little icon on the screen which I think indicate the radio signal and I see that 'good' days signal is full but today it's very weak. When I have that issue I checked on PC that CPU and memory consumption are fine.
The bottom-line is that I have no clue what could be the reason why Wi-Fi communication between my PC and TV is so unstable. I have no problem to stream movie from internet which indicates that my router is OK. I have 15 Mbps down and 5 Mbps up speed ... but LG support said me that speed does not play any role in communication between PC and TV since they are connected internally.
Does anyone have an idea what could be the problem? Does it make sense to try another Media Server on my Ubuntu ... maybe Plex Server is not working reliably ?

Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Hi, just a thought, about radio bandwidth...

If you use the defalt wireless channel, (say 6) and Your nextdoor neighbour also uses channel 6, you will get interference from them and they from you.

In short, try a different channel, it's easy to try.

Do you think it might play role in my case as well? I understand that I use only local traffic between PC and TV .... But it worth to try.

Well, wireless channels may not be the problem, But it's easy to check.

If there's no change, move on to the server software.

same happens with me using xbmc and my fedora server. moving the router a few inches helps as well sometimes.

what i do to troubleshoot is scp a large file while moving/ changing channels on the router and wait a few minutes for the bits/s to fluctuate.

are you saying that a few inches could make a diff?
talking about troubleshooting .. did you mean to scp large file and note the time it took and then change channel and scp again and compare those 2 times ?

^ for me it did... perhaps i have some metal brackets under the floor boards ?

what i do is scp a 1 gb file then make small adjustments (changing channel or moving the router a few inches) and look to see if the average transfer speed changes any.
