Looks like you have done one or more commands as root.
( sudo <some-command> ).
Better delete everything, and start from scratch in
a new directory. Ns-allinone-2.34 is usually easy to
compile on Ubuntu : LQ Search → 'Tag Name' = ns2

But then again, using "Ubuntu 10.04 alpha 4" (or worse) is asking
