problem in xscreensaver

i am running xscreensaver from student login. before that i am running xhost +localhost command. but it gives output :
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified
xhost: unable to open display ":0.0"

what shud i do

could u explain what ur doing on the server and on the client???
what commands do u run on server and on client
