Problem in mounting CD ROM and USB

Hello
i am using Red Hat Linux 6.1 installed
on Windows XP(NTFS partition) Service Pack1 through VMWare Software.I have to copy contents from windows to linux.I tried to mount windows on linux but linux version does not support NTFS.Then i tried to mount USB with sda and sdb both. But it says that cant load these modules. Then i tried to mount CD Rom then it says that "/dev/cdrom
is not having write permissions".I manualy changed permissions then linux got corrupted.I did mounting before also but on a separate partition Linux. Is it the problem due to VMWare.
Plz help...
Thanks and Regards
Rohit

First step you want to take: get a distribution from this millennia.

Red Hat 6.1 is ancient (and hence no longer supported by Red Hat), you'd save yourself many problems by getting a more recent distribution. Fedora Core is the newer "community" version of Red Hat, but of course there are other distributions to use!
