Probably been asked before: Modules VS Kernel?
Whats best? Kernel of Modules?
Generally I'm working from the position:
"I definately need this, I've definately got this hardware, therefore I make that a kernel."
"I / something might need this, I think thats what the hardware is, I'll make that a module."
and
"Nothing is going to need that, I haven't got that hardware / won't be using it for that, therefore I'll deselect that."
As an Linux n00b, I'm guessing that if its compiled into the kernel it'll be more efficient, due to the kernel being loaded to memory on startup, whereas a module gets loaded when the part is used. I'm guessing, though, that a module would be better when something isn't used much, if at all, as it'll make the kernel smaller (more efficient?).
