PPPoE problem on brand new kernel

Let me explain my problem: I am using Slackware 10 with kernel 2.6.10 (I downloaded and compiled it some time ago), while I had no need of my MIDI device, it was OK for me, but in the day that I needed it, I found myself in the need of a new kernel with a brand new configuration, with changes on sound drivers, some security changes (for JACK) and optimization (preemptable kernel). Well, if I am to recompile everything, I will do it with the last version. So I downloaded the last stable kernel version (2.6.11.7, everytingh in a single package). The problem began when I unpacekd the new kernel source and deleted the old one without saving the .config file (very stupid, I know). I had to reconfigure everyting. Now cames the real problem: while my MIDI device is great in the new kernel, I cannot connect to the Internet with PPPoE, when I run the adls-start script, I see action on the LEDs on my ADSL modem until the message "TIMED OUT" is displayed.
I do not know what could be wrong, I recompiled the new kernel many times with diffenrent options and the internet never works. All I have now is a new kernel with no internet and an old kernel with no source.
Can you help me? Do you have a x86 box running Slackware 10 with kernel 2.6, working PPPoE and can send me the .config file? Or maybe some other info that could be useful?

Thanks.

what driver do you use?

what driver for your modem adsl do you use? maybe eagle-usb?

You have to configure your kernel with PPP suport.

The modem is connected through an ethernet card, the driver is via-rhine.o.
PPP is compiled in kernel, the problem is in another place, I just solved it: I had to set the option "Prompt for development and/or incomplete code/drivers" to be able to se the option to compile the PPPoE support. Now it is working.
Thanks anyway.
