Unhappy ppp_async problem in Gentoo 2004.0 kernel 2.6

Some program tries to create ppp connection then tells that it failed to load the ppp_async module.

In dmesg I see the following lines :

PPP generic driver version 2.4.2
devfs_mk_dev: could not append to parent for ppp
failed to register PPP device (-17)
ppp_async: Unknown symbol ppp_channel_index
ppp_async: Unknown symbol ppp_register_channel
ppp_async: Unknown symbol ppp_input
ppp_async: Unknown symbol ppp_input_error
ppp_async: Unknown symbol ppp_output_wakeup
ppp_async: Unknown symbol ppp_unregister_channel
ppp_async: Unknown symbol ppp_unit_number

I would appericate any suggestion.
Thank you in advance!

PPP is a Point to Point Protocol.

If you are using a modem or ADSL or PPoE connection, this may be the reason its starting to load.

If you don't need it, try and shut it down.
Refer to your system configuration first before removing this.
Its not that bad. Just doesnt load correctly .

The problem is that I NEED this PPP connection to work!

I have found this : http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/.../msg01821.html
page, it seems there is some problem with devfs, but I can't understand what has to be done!
Could anyone try to explain me?
