Powerspec PC Troubles.

Hey everyone,

I have an older Powerspec machine that I am trying to install Linux on and despite my best efforts it is resisting me the whole way.

I can not figure it out. I installed Redhat 6.2 on it first, everything worked fine in the install. The machine rebooted got to LILO and crashed. I took the hdd out and tried it my main Dell, worked just fine.

I took a 10 gig hdd from my Debian server out (as I got it a bigger hdd) and stuck it un there, same deal it just got to LILO and crashed.

Wierd.

Anyone got any advice? Is there a BIOS issue?

Here's the machine

Hi Brother Michael,
What is a powerspec? You tried the hd you installed RH on powerspec on your Dell computer and it worked, or tried the hd of your Dell into powerspec? Forgive me my questions but English is not my mother language and I'm afraid to be a little confused.
As a first guess, did you check your memory? Linux can boot since 386 machines with 8MB.

I took the HD out of the Linux machine that was not working, and put it in my Dell and it worked.

I have also taken a HDD out of a working Linux Machine and put it in my Powerspec and it did not boot.

Windows 98 was running on this Powerspec originally.

+EDIT+ And a powerspec is simply a Computer that is built by a manufacturer (like a Dell or an HP) but doesnt come with a lot of garbage on it.

Hi Brother Michael,
Forgive my bad formulated question. I asked you what processor family, speed and memory size your machine has.
Based on your clarifications, I guess you may have a memory problem in your machine.
There are some references at google about this kind of problem relative to athlon processors, but for newer distributions.
