possible to install from a bootable hard drive partition?

i'm working on a pc from like 2k1 here that has windows on it; and that penguin is so much cuter. anyway, i have a dvd installation .iso on a spare hard drive, but this machine doesn't have a compatible drive. i was wondering if it was possible to "burn" the bootable install image to my spare 30gb, as to use it in leu of a dvd?

ps. i do have a floppy drive if that helps

That is probably distro specific. May want to check the distro's site to see if it has the capabilities to do that.
