Possible to hide hostname information from w/who/finger ?

Hiya,

I have root access on a public ssh server and I was wondering if it would be possible to hide my hostname when I am logged in using my standard user name.

In man finger it explains the use of ~/.nofinger but this is only useful for preventing remote fingering. I would like to keep the tools w/who/finger etc for other users on this machine, but be able to hide my hostname which appears when a user that is logged in types "finger sbing".

Is this possible?

Can anyone see any workarounds?

The system is running slackware 9.1

Thanks in advance

Well you could disable finger by editing your rc.inetd and commenting out finger
then finger wont be running ... now to a killall inetd and finger is gone.

Sorry if this doesn't help.

Thanks for your reply. However, as I said before I'd like to keep the tools for other users.

The way I see it the only other way of hiding my IP is ssh to another box on the local network and then ssh from that box to the public ssh server.
