Porting linux games

What exactly is involved in porting a linux game... if I gave myself the target of porting a game to linux by the time I died what would I have to know?

From a not-very-knowledgable point of view wouldn't you just have to change all graphics + sound routines to work with x + alsa?

Maybe you should replace the calls to the DirectX and WinSocks routines with calls to routines of SDL and OpenGL (if you were using Direct 3D), but depends on the nature of the game.
