POP3 Query

I need to build two pop3 mail servers. i have smtp server for all outgoing mails and just need to have pop3 server.

I need this to be on two machines ( back each other up ), so what I need to know is this : Is it possible for me to configure my pop3 so that it checks for a single user's mail on two DIFFERENT machines without through one of the machines ? Is the some " pop3 mirroring " or something ????!!!! hehehe.

If somebody can help me...this is just experimental for now....if it works then it becomes a solution.

Also on the MX records, I guess I will have to give preference to one, then second pref to the other right ? What will the effect of equal preference be ?

Am new at this linux stuff so if it doesnt make sense tell me...I rephrase !
