Pls. Help SATA Harddisk?

Hi ALL:

I would like to buy a computer with SATA Harddisk and a motherboard.

Does any one try the motherboard
"Northbride: KT600 and Southbridge:VIA 8237"?

Is it o.k. to install Debian 3.0 r2 (2.4 kernel) WITHOUT install driver/module?

Thanks.

I believe it should be OK, 2.4 has basic support for most SATA controllers, but linux does have driver disk support so you can probably find a linux dd for your controller in any case.

Take a look at the Hardware Compatibility List by clicking on the hcl button above.
This is where LQ Members post information about hardware that they've gotten to
work in *nix. You didn't mention a specific model of motherboard, but you may find
one in the hcl either identical to what you've considered, or with the same chipset.
