Pinux on a cd?
 

I am interested in running Linux. I have never used it before. I would like to burn it to a disk and run the OS from the disk... I don't know if that's possible. If it is could someone give me detailed instructions on how to do that? And if I need to burn any program I want to use onto the disk too... (word processing, etc...)

Linux Live CDs are already available if you'd rather just download an iso and burn it. Have a look at http://www.livecdnews.com/ and http://distrowatch.com/ for more info on available distros.

well then, what's on the Live Disk? There can't be anything I can't do at home on the disk...

A Linux LiveCD is a complete Linux distribution on a bootable CD. This means that you can boot your computer with the CD in, and it will boot. Try the Ubuntu "Desktop CD", which has everything on it including Word Processing, Media players, browsers and more.

Be aware, that running from a CD will be much slower than running from and installed version. The Ubuntu desktop cd has the option of installing if you want.
