when I try to compile PHP (w/ apache), it says the libpng.a|so is not found. I've added /usr/local/lib and /usr/lib to /etc/ld.so.conf and did a 'ldconfig'. I have a libpng.so.3 which i'm assuming is a newer version of the file? i could just create a static link 'ln -s' but i'm guessing there are tons of other files that woud need linking. The compile recommends maybe trying a '--with-jpeg-dir' which I have no idea what that is. I'm running Redhat Enterprise 3.0.
This will tell you the version. And what version of PHP are you trying to install? Do you also have a libpng12.so.0 file? The latest version of libpng is libpng-1.2.5
even though libpng is already installed as 1.2.2-22, the file PHP is looking for when its compiling is 'libpng.so.0' and that file isn't there..would it make a difference if i upgrade to 1.2.5 and install the libpng.so.0 file?
