since installing linux i've had nothing but problems, the biggest problem is that my computer won't autorun anything and every time i try to open a programme or a cd/dvd i get the error message: 'permissions denied'. I can't even mount.
does anybody know why this is happening? If so please help, it would be much appreciated.
what programs are you trying to run? if they are intended to be run as root (the head honcho of a system) then your user probably wont have rights, you can look into sudo to giving your normal user permissions, you can edit /etc/fstab to allow normal users to mount etc etc.
i'm logged in as root, every time i try to mount or read a disc it says 'permissions denied'.
i do not know how to change it. i'm not sure what sudo is, i'm very unfamiliar with linux system configuration as i have been using Windows before. i built the computer myself, and for some reason Windows XP will not install properly but Linux did.
i just need to know how to eliminate the need for permissions so i can get full access to my whole system.

You cannot eliminate the need for permissions in Linux/Unix systems, because its part of their design. What you can do is change permissions to suite various situations.
Suse should automatically detect any optical discs (although they may not be automatically run) and usb devices. If you insert a disc and it does not autorun, click on the System icon on your desktop and then from the System devices click the icon that represents the disc you inserted. Maybe if you give detailed information about your problem and some examples, you may get more accurate help.
well, i've tried to run sims 2 and simcity 4 because i've heard they can be run with Wine, but i'm denied opening and running any programmes and software from disc.
i've tried opening them by clicking on the icon, running it through Wine and browsing.
Have you tried doing something like "$wine /media/cdrom/someprogram.exe"? Change the paths and program name so that they are the same as the ones on your system.
