permission problems when moving files.

This is on OpenSuse11

This seems really strange. HAL refused to automount my USB drive - policy settings, yadda yadda...

So I mounted it to /mnt/sdc1
I don't see where I went wrong:

Code:
roman@dhcppc0:/mnt/sdc1/VIDEO> mv Frank\ Zappa\ -\ Uncle\ Meat\ -\ II.mpg music/
mv: cannot stat `music/Frank Zappa - Uncle Meat - II.mpg': Permission denied
but:

Code:
roman@dhcppc0:/mnt/sdc1/VIDEO> ls -l Frank\ Zappa\ -\ Uncle\ Meat\ -\ II.mpg
-rwx-rw-rw- 1 roman users 522239984 2008-04-16 12:04 Frank Zappa - Uncle Meat - II.mpg
Code:
roman@dhcppc0:/mnt/sdc1/VIDEO> ls -l | grep music
drwxrw-rw- 2 roman users 4096 2008-03-31 10:06 music

Is mounted with rw:

Code:
roman@dhcppc0:/mnt> cat /etc/mtab | grep sdc1
/dev/sdc1 /mnt/sdc1 ext3 rw 0 0
Code:
roman@dhcppc0:/mnt> ls -l
total 8
drwxr-xr-x 31 roman users 4096 2008-06-11 14:55 sdc1

what gives?

edit:
moving those files as root works fine.

Hey there,

If you can move as root, it might be the permissions on the point over which you're laying the mount. If the filesystem you're mounting (as well as the mountpoint your mounting it on) both don't have lax enough permissions, that can cause issues.

Also, check out yast's nfs-server-settings and the exportfs file. On OpenSUSE 11, all of those things interact and it can be a huge PITA

Best wishes,

Mike
