peresonal opinions appreciated re-mandriva and suse

having just downloaded the 4 cd iso set of mandriva 2007 and installed it to find it to crash on anything i open i thought i would try the mandriva 2006 dvd set i bought from a well known auction website to find that freezes after about 5 minutes especially the internet pages.
so my question is to all, in your own opinions which distro is the most stable and best out of suse 10.0 ( i have 10.1 but it tells me i cant install it as i only 256 memory and it needs 512) or mandriva
at the minute im running ubuntu live cd
im stuck as i like both suse and mandriva and dont want to dual boot as i done that with both suse and mandriva and xp pro

I havent found mandriva 10.0 10.1 2005 2006 2007
or SuSe 10.0 10.1 or 10.2 alpha

to crash like your describing
But since all seem to crash there must be a fault somewhere on your system

i suggest using the memcheck option on the Suse or mandriva Install disk
since i think you have faulty ram.
Windows is less likely to crash with faulty ram since windows is very friendly to using the Hard Disk for slow swap.
Mandriva and SuSe use the memory as much as physically possible
Memtest takes a few hours though
